Space Soldiers best Russia to advance to WESG final

Space Soldiers bested Russia in the second semi-final of WESG World Finals, advancing to the grand final following a 2-0 victory (Cobblestone 16-6, Nuke 16-11).

The second semi-final of WESG began on Space Soldiers pick, Cobblestone. Russia's mix-team grabbed two rounds on the back of a pistol round win at the start, but they soon found themselves in trouble, failing to defend the B bombsite three times over, and began falling behind.

The Turkish side grabbed a 7-3 lead before Georgi "⁠WorldEdit⁠" Yaskin clutched a 1v1. The Russians managed to clinch one more in the 14th round, but Ismailcan "⁠XANTARES⁠" Dörtkardeş ended the half at 10-5, clutching a 1v2 on A to complete his second ace in the match.

Ahmet "⁠paz⁠" Karahoca's triple in A ramp in the following pistol round kicked off a quick finish to the match, as only the first gunround went the other way while Space Soldiers rallied to a 16-6 win.

Space Soldiers join fnatic in the WESG grand final

Things started looking dire for Russia when Space Soldiers went up 6-1 on Nuke as Terrorists, in large part thanks to Engin "⁠ngiN⁠" Kor's three clutches; two 1v2s and a 1v3. However, an eco win courtesy of Denis "⁠electroNic⁠" Sharipov's quad-kill turned the tide, as the economy shifted in the Russians' favor. Surviving the following force and anti-eco, Russia began clawing back and ended up grabbing a 9-6 lead in the first half with eight rounds in a row.

Space Soldiers responded by stringing together the first three rounds once the sides switched to make it 9-9. The two teams went back and forth until it was 11-11, when the Turks claimed a half-buy win to reset their opponents and claim five rounds in a row for a 16-11, 2-0 victory and a spot in the grand final.
